Black in America

In my current doctoral course, I am continuing to read about America’s dropout crisis and, in particular, the number of students who dropout of high school in California. Specifically, I am focusing on why there are more dropouts among African American and Hispanic young people than among whites. As I’ve said in the past, one high school dropout is too many!

The questions that keep mulling around in my head are:

  • Why do African-American and Hispanic students dropout more than white students?
  • How might online learning look different for African-American and Hispanic students?

In the midst of this, I learned about CNN’s show entitled “Black in America“. The show aired this week, but will be shown again this weekend. What is even more fascinating is the number of people who have responded to the show with the CNN i-report system. And the i-report blog registered other responses as well. I’m looking forward to seeing the show this weekend.
