I was pleased to read in the most current issue of American Libraries, the monthly publication of the American Library Association, that Oprah’s favorite part of her new school is the library! The girls’ school was recently opened in the Gauteng province in South Africa.
In this similar article, the library is highlighted and described as “Oprah’s favorite place in the school.”
The article in the ALA periodical, explains:
“Designed to raise girls from poverty to positions of leadership, the academy is equipped with a state-of-the-art library…Celebrities in attendance [at the opening day ceremony] were asked to bring a personally inscribed book for the library.”
It is refreshing to hear from influential people like Oprah who are promoting and illustrating the importance of school libraries! No doubt, the girls who attend this school will do great things.
